A little while ago, we asked you, the general public, to feed us questions you might have about whatever your curious minds might have in them regarding us, ministry here, everyday life, etc. Here's the first two episodes of our radio-call-in-show-style videos!
We visited the Cuevas del Candelario this weekend. By visited I mean we walked through them AND tubed on and underground river through them! Amazing. What struck me the most, though, is that as we were in awe of the grandness of the stalactites (from the top) and stalagmites (from the bottom), our guide Raul told us these stalagmites grow just one millimeter every year, even as water constantly drops down on to them leaving tiny mineral deposits. But it's constant. Bit by bit. Slow. But even when no one's watching, it's growing.
If a stalagmite can grow one millimeter a year by every day doing a little bit, I can do those little daily things I so often brush over without paying much attention or altogether skip. Reading, memorizing the Bible, praying, reviewing Spanish vocabulary. I love the quick fix. I love the rapid movement. I get discouraged when it's not all right there, easy to see. If I (or you) don't feel like I'm growing or moving anywhere, maybe its time to remember something basic and just do a little everyday. Bit by bit those stalagmites look pretty impressive, though, I tell ya. For more information on how the stalag's grow, get your science fix here. |
